What happens to items that are not listed on ThredUp? Together with their partners, ThredUp is committed to returning as many items as possible back into the circular economy and keeping them out of landfill.

We are committed to sustainable and ethical business practices and have implemented environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) policies and goals throughout our company to formalize and manage our commitment over time.

We list items on consignment, so you'll get paid for each item when and if it sells.

You have to look at a lot of second hand trash to find your treasures. If you are going to a thrift store you will find that they have lots and lots of trash. Many items are just too ugly, not complete, too stained or just too out of date. You have to look at all of those items to find your little treasure.

What can I send in? We accept women's and kids' clothing, handbags, shoes, fashion jewelry, and accessories. We do not​currently accept men's clothing, formal gowns, items over 5 years old, items with signs of wear, or anything counterfeit.

If you visit thredUP a lot, we know you're always looking for what's new. You can choose “New Arrivals” under “Ways to Shop” to see everything that's newly listed. Shopping new with tags means you get brand-new, unworn items, while still scoring sustainability (and wallet-saving) points.

Sometimes the inventory is sold or auctioned off piecemeal to retail buyers or in large wholesale lots to other companies. Sometimes the inventory is recycled. Sometimes it's donated. Sometimes it's thrown away, unfortunately.

You may reclaim an accepted item for $5.99 (except for ineligible Value Brands) during the final seven days of the item's listing window as long as they're not in another customer's cart or already purchased. Ineligible Value brands may not be reclaimed.
